The one-metre snake caught in Kowloon Park on Sunday was a ball python imported from central Africa as a pet. The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said it had most likely been dumped in the park by its owner. The department allowed 2,380 snakes to be imported into Hong Kong last year, down from 2,700 in 2005. It also confirmed that the 3-metre snake that killed a goat in front of shocked villagers in Tseng Lan Shue, Sai Kung, on Saturday, was a Burmese python and it was likely that it would be released again.
