Insurance premiums in the mainland jumped 27.8 per cent last month from April last year, boosted by strong growth in property insurance. Insurers collected 56.7 billion yuan in premiums last month, the China Insurance Regulatory Commission said. Property insurance accounted for 19.5 billion yuan, up 57 per cent from a year earlier. Life insurance grew 17 per cent to 32.6 billion yuan and casualty insurance jumped 31 per cent to 1.68 billion yuan. Total assets were 2.43 trillion yuan in the first four months of this year, including 758.9 billion yuan in bank deposits, up from 634.4 billion yuan in the first quarter and 1.47 trillion yuan in investments such as stocks and bonds. Insurance premiums generated from Jiangsu province amounted to 25.3 billion yuan. It was followed by Guangdong province's 20.9 billion yuan, the CIRC said.
