Ten outstanding athletes will each receive HK$100,000 to prepare themselves for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
They are the beneficiaries under the second phase of Manulife Hong Kong Sports Scholarship Programme.
The HK$2 million initiative was launched last year by Manulife Hong Kong Limited, an insurance company, and the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China.
It is aimed at promoting the Olympics among the public and ensuring that Hong Kong's athletes are well-prepared for next year's summer extravaganza.
Wan Kin-yee (athletics), Chow Tsz-ki (fencing), Tsai Hiu-wai (swimming), Tie Ya-na (table tennis) and and Lee Chi-wo (triathlon) will be eligible for the subsidy for the first time. The scholarship covers a 12-month period - from next month until May 2008.
Yip Pui-yin (badminton), Steven Wong (cycling), Cheng Man-kit (equestrian), So Sau-wah (rowing) and Fong Hoi (shooting), who were included in the first phase of the programme, have been selected again.
