Hong Kong resident Wong Bo-yan, 13, was pulled from the rubble and taken to hospital where she was confirmed dead, Zhujiang TV reported last night. Further details on the girl were not available.

The 11-year-old wounded girl, a mainlander surnamed Mo, from Qiaotou town, was in 'good' condition last night with minor injuries.

Beams supporting a shelter made from concrete and bricks, and covering 15 stores in the single-storey Baihua Plaza mall collapsed at 12.30pm. Police, firemen and medical staff from a hospital were at the scene within minutes. Wong suffered major injuries and medical staff were unable to save her.

A female staff member on duty at a local police station confirmed the accident to Cable TV last night. She said the case was being handled by relevant departments.
