Business: Owner of Soho Day Spa

Young Post: What does your business include?

Tong: My shop offers facials, spa, body massage, nail art and dieting packages to clients. We also sell the beauty products that  we use in our services.

YP: How did you start your business?

T: I've always been interested in beauty issues. Two years ago, I took part-time courses on doing facials.

After working in the field for a year, I started looking to see if I could buy a business off someone.

Hong Kong Business Intermediary (HKBI)  offers business models from various fields. Through the company, I managed to contact a spa owner whose shop  is in Central. After running  the spa for

six months, she decided to focus on selling products.

YP: How much did the business cost?

T: It was HK$260,000. I was only able to afford half of the payment. I borrowed the rest from  HKBI.

YP: Did the business include everything you need?

T: The shop is fully furnished.

It also comes with two machines.

There was not much that I needed to add. My spa, including myself, has three beauty consultants.

My main expenses are rent and salaries.

YP: What marketing strategies does your shop use?

T: My spa uses organic products, which are good for the skin.

It is a selling point.

I mainly promote my business through  leaflets.

First-time clients  get a 50 per cent discount.

YP: What is your greatest satisfaction from this job?

T: I've always been interested in beauty and grooming.

It's a pleasure to  run a business based on my personal interests.

There was a client who came to my spa  with a serious pimple problem.

She told me that she got better after her first treatment. And now she's  a regular.

I get a lot of satisfaction when I know clients are happy about my  service.
