Travels to treasure

Scarlet Ma

Buy him a gift; take him out to dinner; get him a ticket to his favourite game: there are many ways to celebrate with your father. But the most important thing is to be there with him.

Wanna listen to music, Dad?

You got him an iPod last year, so add icing to the cupcake by getting him the NEXTBASE Media 22, an all-in-one audio-visual system. Just put the iPod into the docking port and father and son can share their favourite tunes and movies together. Compact and weighing only 9kg, the system can be moved around easily and play anywhere in the house. It also has a built-in DVD player and a 3.6-inch TFT screen, and you could also plug it into a bigger TV screen. The system, which comes in black or white, also supports Bluetooth A2DP. Available from TDC's Design Gallery at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (2584 4146) for HK$3,980.

Wanna go for a ride, Dad?

Put your father behind the wheel of the newly launched Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster or Aston Martin DB9 for just the price of a lunch. On June 17, all fathers taking the special Father's Day menu in Caprice (Four Seasons Hotel, 3196 8860) will be offered a test drive of either car that has enthusiasts swooning. The fast journey in hand-stitched leather seats is followed by a four-course gourmet lunch created by chef Vincent Thierry, which includes warm duck foie gras with Girolle mushroom fricassee; cordifole salad and pine nut in natural jus; roasted pigeon with baby artichoke and young spinach, green apple chutney and liquorice brown sauce. Served noon-2.30pm at HK$680 per head.

All packed, Dad?

Take your father on a trip of his dreams with a range of themed Father's Day package deals offered by travel agent Zuji (www.zuij.com.hk), including a three-day, two night in Ho Chi Minh City for a Mekong Delta Cruise (from HK$1,927), in Bangkok for Thai boxing (from HK$2,172), in Tokyo for Ninja Theatre (from HK$3,951), or in Bali for eco cycling (from HK$4,524). Biker dads would love a four-day, two-night (including an overnight flight) Harley-Davidson tour (from HK$7,720) in Melbourne, which covers a route from West Gate Bridge to Williamstown Strand, then back crossing the Yarra River and along the beach to St Kilda. The trip finishes with a ride around the Albert Park's Formula1 Grand Prix circuit. All prices include round-trip tickets and three-star accommodation.

Let's go shuck this one together, Dad!

Sign your father and yourself up for the oyster shucking competition before taking him to lunch at The Bostonian Restaurant (Langham Hotel, Tsim Sha Tsui, 2375 1133) on Father's Day. After enjoying the HK$388-per-person semi-buffet lunch that includes an appetiser buffet (with Australian items such as Tasmanian salmon, fresh oysters, baked oysters and salads), a choice of entree, unlimited desserts and samplers of Australian wine from the tasting counter, you and your father can team up and go shucking. After a demonstration by oyster expert Michael Filippidis, six pairs of fathers and sons or daughters will race to shuck 12 oysters. The fastest shuckers receive a pair of oyster shucking knives, valued at HK$2,500.
