HKUST President Paul Chu Ching-wu and his wife May (left) drop in on undergraduates Cherry Ho Cheuk-ting, 20, and Hong Xiaoping, 21, in one of the university's nanotechnology laboratories. Ms Ho and Mr Hong each received HK$50,000 as the first recipients of the Paul and May Chu Research Awards for Physics Students. Professor and Mrs Chu have donated HK$1 million towards the fund. 'I always remember as an undergraduate student in Taiwan how fortunate I was to get a scholarship,' Professor Chu said. 'Without it I would not be here today.'
