Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
This week, we fly across the pond to take a look at otaku trends in the US.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which is soon to be released, is the second instalment of the story of the comic world's first family.
The Fantastic Four were created by Stan Lee, with illustrations by industry legend Jack Kirby. The comics exploded on the scene in November 1961 as Marvel's answer to DC's Justice League of America.
The Four were unique at the time as they had no costumes for the first two issues and were portrayed as a typical, although dysfunctional, nuclear family. The team would often squabble over petty things.
The Four also broke with tradition in that they had no secret identity - their special powers were public knowledge.
They gained their extraordinary powers when they secretly hijacked a spaceship. The craft had been grounded by authorities concerned about the unknown side effects of cosmic rays on the human body so far out in space.
