As the mainland's leading coal and oil shipping company, China Shipping Development's principal activity is the provision of cargo shipping. Other activities include the purchase and sale of ships, repair and construction of containers, ship spare parts purchase and sales agency, consultancy and transfer of ship technology. Cargo shipping mainly consists of oil and dry bulk cargoes along the coast of China. China Shipping Development has benefited from the delivery of 42 dry bulk vessels from its parent company, China Shipping Group, which had helped it to take advantage of freight rates that had reportedly surged on demand for raw materials in the mainland. Stringent cost controls are also in place, which should continue to add to the company's bottom line.
