Animal welfare may soon become part of the syllabus for primary and secondary school students.
There has been an increase in the number of animals being abused or maltreated in the city.
The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Hong Kong) (SPCA) launched a Humane Education campaign last week to help children develop a positive attitude towards caring for animals from an early age.
The SPCA believes that by familiarising children and young adults with animals and teaching them the right way to treat them, they will develop love and respect for animals.
With support from the Hong Kong Bank Foundation, the SPCA has developed a Humane Education package targeted at primary and secondary school students.
The package embraces many aspects in animal care and welfare.
