Name: Winsome Lok Lai Ming

Age: 29

Lok graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a Bachelor's degree in Design. She won third prize in the A-Fontane Creative fashion Design Competition and a scholarship at the UK Boots London Fashion Week in 2004. She opened her own shop, Winsome Fashion, last year and started her clothing line which focuses on east-meets-west design. Lok is a member of the Hong Kong Fashion Designer Association.

What are the trends this summer?

For girls, the layered  look with long,  slim tops,  belts and short pants are in.

The beach look is in for boys. The key to a beach look is to be colourful and fresh. Detailed polo shirts and shorts  make you  look like you just got back from the Bahamas.

What colours are in?

White and sliver  are the colours this summer. They can be found in prints,  embroidery pieces, separates, dresses, swimwear and accessories.

Any tips for looking smart?

Young people should  focus on their own style based on their  personality. You should also pay attention to your figure. For example, if you have long legs,  wear short hot pants or mini-skirts.

Pick the right outfits for different occasions. You can look at

magazines or browse the internet for  inspiration, but don't follow trends blindly.

Where do you go shopping?

I usually make my own clothes so they are unique. But for basic  things, like shoes, I buy  them when I travel. I like message T-shirts and vintage too, but I create my own vintage style. I dye  old T-shirts to make them look cooler. This way, you don't have to spend much  and you get your

own style.

What are the hot accessories?

Space fashion is in for the summer. Try metallic necklaces. For boys, I suggest an eye-catching belt. Hats are hot picks. Grass  and rattan hats are great for the beach look.

Be bold. Try DIY (do-it-yourself). You can save money and create your own style at the same time.

Don'ts

Avoid shopping impulses. Think twice before you  buy any clothing or accessories.
