January 25 The HKIEd council votes not to reappoint president Paul Morris.
February 3 Former academic vice-president Bernard Luk Hung-kay writes the '10,000-character letter' which is published on the institute's intranet.
February 15 Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen announces a commission of inquiry to investigate the controversy surrounding allegations of government interference at the institute. Vice-president of the Court of Appeal of the High Court, Mr Justice Woo Kwok-hing is appointed chairman and Lee Jark-pui commissioner.
March 16 Mr Justice Woo resigns as chairman after admitting that his impartiality was in doubt due to an 'ongoing working relationship' with one of the key officials involved in the inquiry, ICAC commissioner Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun.
March 20 Court of Appeal judge Mr Justice Wally Yeung Chun-kuen is appointed the new chairman.
March 29 The first witness, Professor Morris, takes the stand. Over 33 days, 24 witnesses give evidence.
