Nokia Siemens Networks, a telecoms equipment joint venture between Nokia and Siemens, say its mobile network business has outperformed fixed-line operations as telecom operators expand their mobile coverage to rural areas. This is according to Zhang Zhiqiang, head of the firm's Greater China Region.
Mr Zhang said the company was considering importing the Village Connection solution, which it had deployed for rural mobile coverage in India, to the mainland.
Nokia Siemens, which was formed in April 2007, is one of the three biggest telecom network vendors in the world after Ericsson and Motorola. It has more than 600 customers in 130 countries serving one billion people and is ranked second in the mobile network field.
'The company has been recording growth since it was established and a lot of that is from the mobile side,' said Mr Zhang.
'Mobile technologies would play a key role for fixed-line operators in the future, as it would be more efficient to build mobile networks in villages,' Mr Zhang said.
Nokia Siemens is seeking to co-operate with the mainland operators to launch 'village connection' to boost rural coverage.
