A FORMER property negotiator received a suspended sentence in Western Court yesterday for obtaining $230,000 from a shop purchaser under false pretenses. Nip Wo-lok, 32, was found guilty of obtaining the money by claiming that another agent was demanding an introduction and compensation fee of $400,000 for the sale of a shop. Magistrate Mary Yuen sentenced Nip to nine months' jail, suspended for 18 months. Nip had pleaded not guilty. The court heard that property agent Wong Sui-ping contacted Nip in June 1992 and asked him to find a buyer for premises in Lee Garden Road. Nip falsely told potential buyer Lau Chun-kwan that Ms Wong wanted $400,000 as an introduction fee. Nip told Mr Lau to pay in cheques of $230,000 and $170,000 to Ms Wong. In fact Nip kept the cheque for $230,000 and deposited it in his wife's account.
