Li Ka Shing Foundation makes Canadian gift

The Li Ka Shing Foundation has donated C$3 million (HK$22.8 million) to the University of Calgary. The university's Schulich School of Engineering, which will match the donation, will create an endowed chair to improve research that leads to innovative educational programmes. Mr Li believes the spirit of reason and innovation is the key to any society's continuous progress, said a university statement. The engineering school is one of the most competitive in Canada for engineering students, with undergraduate enrolments increasing by 35 per cent in the past five years.
