Miroslav Klose began his career with Bayern Munich in emphatic style yesterday, scoring one goal and setting up another as the German masters beat Brazilian outfit Sao Paulo 2-1 in the HKSAR 10th Anniversary Reunification Cup at Hong Kong Stadium.
Playing his first match for the Bavarian side since moving from Werder Bremen last week, Klose headed home an equaliser in the second half following a corner and then won a free kick which was converted by Hamit Altintop for the winning goal.
'I would give his performance 99 marks out of 100,' said Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld. 'The missing one mark is because he did not score the second goal himself.'
Sao Paulo opened the scoring through Marcel Augusto Ortolan in the 19th minute.
Klose equalised in the 60th minute and should have made it two goals 15 minutes later. A perfect through ball from Altintop sent Klose clear in the middle but as he was about to shoot, Sao Paulo midfielder Eric Leandro da Silva fouled the Germany international.
Altintop, also a new signing, took the free kick and the ball deflected off a defender before finding its way into the net.
