Take Action has received a lot of yoga-related complaints lately. It appears some yoga schools are overstepping the mark with their promotions to lure students, who later may find the courses quite different from what is promised.
Geoffrey Deschamps was among a group of yoga enthusiasts who found their class gone overnight. The Bikram Yoga Studio, with which they had signed up, disappeared early last month. At its location emerged another club, Planet Hot Yoga, with totally different instructors to take over the classes.
Bikram is a popular style developed by Bikram Choudhury, whose fame had lured Mr Deschamps to join the studio in Tsim Sha Tsui's Sands Building. The students - numbering at least 20 - were given no explanation for, or notification of, the change.
'I am new to Hong Kong and was excited when I read about the Bikram Yoga Studio. I tried out a class and was impressed so I decided to sign a two-year contract. I was a little sceptical because the fee was HK$13,000, but I really thought it was worthy because I loved Bikram Yoga.
'I took one class and a week later went to check the weekly schedule online. Then I found out there was no longer Bikram Yoga but a studio by the name of Planet Hot Yoga. I immediately went to the studio in person and spoke with the sales manager who sold me the contract.
