A LORRY attendant who strangled his former lover in a bedroom row over his new girlfriend yesterday won a reduction of two years in his sentence for manslaughter. Lau Fuk-yu, 28, appearing in person before the Court of Appeal, submitted that the seven-year sentence was too heavy as he had been heavily provoked by the victim. Lau had denied murder and was found guilty of manslaughter. The court heard that Lau worked as an usher at victim Chu Lan-heung's massage parlour. Mother-of-four Chu, 47, became jealous when he started living with a woman half her age, who also worked at the parlour. Chu had questioned him about the other woman. Lau had tried to leave but Chu bit him and grabbed his scrotum, so he squeezed Chu's neck in a bid to make her stop. The Court of Appeal accepted he had been physically provoked.
