Yip Pui-yin's run at the China Masters in Chengdu ended in the semi-final yesterday after she lost to second seed Xie Xingfang. Suffering from a wrist injury sustained in the previous round when she beat Cheng Shao-chieh of Taiwan, Yip (pictured) was no match for the mainlander, losing 21-6, 21-16 in just 26 minutes. A disappointed Yip said she felt her performance was affected by the injury, but added that she could not claim it was the major reason for the failure. 'I should have attacked more midway through the second set as it was the instruction of the coach. But I could not follow it because the shuttlecock felt heavy,' she said. In the final, Xie will meet compatriot Zhang Ning, who ousted Pi Hongyan of France 21-18, 21-6 in the other semi-final. Hong Kong's top women's player, Wang Chen went out of the tournament in the second round.
