A Kwun Tong doctor has been accused of giving an injection of an anti-inflammatory pain reliever to a patient he knew, or should have known, was allergic to the drug.

The Medical Council heard that on the evening of May 21, 2005, Fong Wai-tong visited Kwong Tsun-tze's clinic to get treatment for a pain in his right wrist.

Dr Kwong gave him a 50mg injection of a drug called Voltaren, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain reliever.

But Mr Fong suffered an allergic reaction that caused breathing difficulties and he was sent to the United Christian Hospital that night.

Mr Fong told the council he had shown his allergy card stating that he was allergic to Voltaren when he had his first consultation with Dr Kwong on October 7, 2003.

Dr Kwong told the council, however, that Mr Fong had not shown him the allergy card and hence he had prescribed 50mg of oral Voltaren to Mr Fong that day.

Dr Kwong said he had jotted down the drugs Mr Fong was allergic to in his medical record when Mr Fong showed him the allergy card on the second consultation on April 29, 2005.
