Happy Valley 88, overlooking the racecourse, is a new development that offers quality serviced apartments away from the bustle of Central and Wan Chai aimed at providing a 'one-stop service' to meet the needs of expatriates. The location makes a pleasant change for people who prefer to live outside of the main business districts, but still in easy reach of them. Trams, buses and taxis are easily accessible, and Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Central are only minutes away. Supermarkets and trendy restaurants and bars are close by. Each of the 620 sqft to 640 sqft apartments - owned by the 88 Serviced Apartments company - offers uninterrupted views of the racecourse, which is particularly spectacular on race nights. Rates for the one-bedroom units range from HK$30,000 to HK$34,000 per month, inclusive of all utilities. The lobby area and all rooms are tastefully decorated in an Oriental style, with some genuine antique furnishings, and it is these small touches that set Happy Valley88 apart from other similar serviced apartments. The walls are adorned with Chinese paintings and old works of art such as framed Chinese dresses and ornaments. The decor gives each apartment a feeling of being immersed in the culture and leaves guests in no doubt as to where they are, as opposed to some serviced apartments that can feel slightly sterile and unremarkable. Combined with this traditional look are all the modern conveniences that the short-stay traveller needs to feel at home. A 42-inch plasma TV is standard in all rooms, with a surround sound home movie theatre system, DVD player and stereo along with Now TV channels. Both wired and wireless high-speed broadband internet access are available throughout the building, and there is a computer terminal in the lobby with internet access. A large, fully equipped kitchen with fridge, cooker, coffee maker and all utensils means that residents are able to cook for themselves or entertain others in the apartment. Each unit has a washing machine and dryer. Apartments are serviced three times a week, with bed linen changed weekly. Laundry and dry-cleaning services are available. The 'transparent' bathrooms are modern, with a large shower area and views over the racecourse. The bathrooms are behind glass walls next to the bedroom, but for added privacy there are electronic blinds. The bedroom and bathroom areas can be separated from the living room with a shoji room divider, providing added privacy when residents have guests. The company aims to look after all guests from the moment they arrive in Hong Kong. 'We are quite unique in that we offer a free Mercedes-Benz limousine service from the airport for all of our residents,' said Gary Cheung Lai-wan, business development and operations manager at management firm Wincome Management. Since opening in November last year, Happy Valley88 has proved popular and has reached an occupancy rate of 80 per cent. 'Most of our residents are male professionals, either in the banking or IT industries. Typically, they stay with us for around three to six months,' Ms Cheung said. Security for guests is taken seriously. A key card is given to each resident which gives them access to the lobby and their floor only. Happy Valley 88 offers a full concierge service for all residents, as well as complimentary gym membership at a chain of fitness centres for guests with leases of three months or more. Wincome Management also manages the Central 88 serviced apartments, which offer similar quality and services. Central 88 guests can stay for as few as three nights at a cost of HK$1,888 per night, plus taxes. The Central apartments offer two bedroom units of up to 1,430 sqft, ideal for families, and range in price from HK$60,000 to HK$66,000 per month.
