The new face of Taiwan creates quite a stir

She dethroned Sherry Chang Hui-mei in practically every aspect of female Taiwanese pop, from sales to awards to popularity polls. Now, Jolin Tsai Yi-lin has even replaced A-mei as Taiwan's tourism ambassador. At the Langham Place Hotel on Wednesday, the young diva was formally introduced as the island's new face in its commercial campaign, along with writer Wu Nien-chen.

'Everyone is just here to represent Taiwan,' Tsai diplomatically replied when asked about replacing her music rival. Dressed in a white gown to boost Taiwan as a wedding destination, she had little to say about much else, and mostly blabbed on about eating mango shaved ice for the commercial shoot.

'The image in the commercial was [taken] near the end of filming. I was eating slower then, because at the beginning I thought 'this is so good!' and I just kept eating and eating,' she said. 'I had to slow my pace and that's when they got the shot they wanted.'

Another segment of the ad created more of a stir at the ceremony. To be precise, the scene of Tsai enjoying a hot spring bath had the male members of the media buzzing. The footage of Wu at the spa? Not so much buzz.
