CHAMPIONSHIP-chasing Ivan Allan has had a tremendous first half of the season and can swing into the second stage with a short-priced double at chilly Sha Tin today. Allan has brought a string of good young horses on line this season and two of them appear again today. A double linking them both could prove reasonably profitable. The exciting youngster Jharna bids for a hat-trick of victories with his engagement in the fifth event and in the penultimate race on the eight-event programme Allan again produces Stellar Express. Jharna, the Australian-bred three-year-old, could still be on the right side of the handicapper at the bottom of Class Three but this is clearly his toughest test. Walter Swinburn will be expecting to add to his list of successes with this mount. This is a moderate Class Three field over 1,200 metres with last start winner Chiu Chow Kid, unreliable Sir Valid and burdened topweight Ever The Best looking the main quinella chances. Jharna has also drawn barrier two which is ideal in this full field of 14. Stellar Express makes a logical progression to 1,400 metres after getting up last time over the longer Sha Tin sprint where he officially beat Mr Nice Guy by a head. Likewise Stellar Express has shown no signs of regressing and he can make it two on end. This is a Class Four event but natural improvement and enough latent ability should ensure Stellar Express winning for champion jockey Basil Marcus. Colour Picture has proved almost a complete disappointment for trainer Wong Tang-ping but he could possibly show up with Gerald Mosse aboard while Plenty Cash would not have to come on too much from his debut run to be in the frame. Alan Munro takes over on Plenty Cash from Jimmy K. H. Ting and the horse has worked well. He was only two and three quarters from the winner on his debut over 1,235 metres at Happy Valley and should appreciate the extra distance here. Allegresse also found 1,000 metres too short last time and Tony Cruz may persuade him to get a lot closer over this trip. It could be quite a battle for the quinella and tierce spots but improving Stellar Express looks the answer when it comes to a win bet.
