A mother vanished after leaving her 13-month-old triplets and their maid in an industrial building in Kwai Chung yesterday. Police were still looking for the woman and her husband last night. A police spokesman said the mother left her baby girl and two baby boys at 10am outside a car repair shop in Kwai Fung Crescent. An initial investigation revealed that she had a heated argument with her husband before abandoning the babies, a police source said. It is uncertain where the row took place. 'The woman told her maid before leaving that she was looking for a friend in the building,' a police spokesman said. The source said some passers-by asked the maid what she was doing there and she told them she was waiting for her employer. 'But her employer did not show up and we could not find the woman,' the source said. The triplets were taken to Princess Margaret Hospital for observation, while police questioned the maid. 'The babies are safe now and workers from the Social Welfare Department are following up on the case,' a government spokesman said. Priscilla Lui Tsang Sun-kai, director of Against Child Abuse, criticised the couple. 'It is a very irresponsible act. Even if the maid was with the babies, she knew nothing,' she said. 'Luckily, the babies were still very small. If they were a bit older and knew what was happening, it could have an enormous impact on them psychologically.' Ms Lui said being a parent was a big task. 'Parents should take care of their children even when they are suffering emotional stress,' she said.
