Singer helping seniors rediscover the joy of learning

You can't accuse Vivian Chow Wai-man (pictured below) of not giving back to the community. In addition to animal causes, the singer has been a proactive supporter of Po Leung Kuk's elderly services. Their latest effort is to give about 150 seniors a chance to experience university life in workshop classes from practical courses in computers and English to less academic pursuits such as beauty and skin care.

'I was at last year's graduation and it was very heartening to see the elderly graduates with their diplomas and caps and gowns,' she said. 'One of this year's students is already 90 and I salute her willingness to learn.'

Chow was at Festival Walk on Sunday as part of a makeup fundraiser with cosmetics brand Shiseido. A special class this year is beauty school for seniors. 'I speak for all women when I say eternal beauty is a lifetime's search,' she said. 'Being beautiful is not just about being young, because different ages have different qualities.'
