The International Film Festival Society could not have asked for a more summery day to announce its second Summer International Film Festival. In the blazing sun of Causeway Bay's World Trade Centre piazza, organisers unveiled the 34-movie schedule that begins on August 1 and serves as a complementary event to the annual movie fest in spring. But their brains might have been overbaked when they decided to ask Denise Ho Wan-si (above) to be this year's celebrity ambassador. We have nothing against the talented musician, but Ho is neither a filmmaker nor an actor and has no ties to the movie community. 'I am honoured to be chosen even though I am not really a film person. I am quite surprised actually that they picked me to be their ambassador,' Ho said. 'As an artist and a singer, I'm always looking for new career changes and I hope through this experience I can learn from the innovative spirit of filmmakers.' The plucky singer was then presented with an oversized blown-up festival pass, giving her unlimited access to all screenings. No doubt they also offered her a smaller-sized real ticket, which Ho hinted she might use because she likes animation. 'As you get older, you start to forget about the simple ideas from when you were little and cartoons kind of remind me of that.'
