An Indonesian maid who gave a cup of drinking water mixed with urine to her employer was jailed for six days yesterday.
Manik, 29, pleaded guilty in Kwun Tong Court to a charge of administering poison or other destructive or noxious substance with intent to injure. But she insisted she had used the urine to treat a skin condition and its presence in her employer's cup was a mistake.
Szeto Ching-han smelled the urine after asking for a cup of drinking water from the maid on May 4. When Ms Szeto asked about the odour, Manik said there was nothing wrong with the water.
Manik drank from the cup after being asked to do so by Ms Szeto, who kept the liquid with the intention of having it tested at a laboratory.
When Ms Szeto brought up the matter three days later, Manik said she had used the urine to wash her face and carelessly splashed some into the cup.
The court heard that Ms Szeto had previously issued a warning letter to her domestic helper, who was hired in February.
Tests showed there was no other contaminant in the water.
