Canto-diva Sandy Lam Yik-lin is back. Again. The singer is mounting another comeback by inaugurating the brand new Star Hall in Kowloon Bay. The theatre will host six concerts by Lam starting on November 9. The HK$130 million venue is only one-third the size of the Hong Kong Coliseum, though, with a capacity of only 3,600. However, Lam doesn't mind. 'I longed for a space where the distance between audience and performer can be closer and [EMI boss] Paco Wong Pak-ko recently told me he found the perfect place,' she said. Lam added that she even inspected the venue wearing a safety helmet during construction. With local obsessions about money and income, talk turned to whether a smaller venue also means a smaller pay cheque? 'My income is reasonable enough,' Lam replied. 'The quality of the production is my priority. I don't mind being paid a little less but we won't cut the production costs.'
