The town of Bixby in the state of Oklahoma has a dark and dangerous secret. On the surface, everything is normal in this typically American community. The citizens of Bixby themselves think their hometown is perfectly ordinary. But this is far from the truth.

From midnight to midnight, life in Bixby follows a regular routine. But on the stroke of midnight, something terrible happens. For exactly one hour, time freezes and the town stops. This is a secret hour when danger waits to attack the unsuspecting community.

During this hour of non-existence, the people of Bixby are prey to terrible dark forces. The barrier between the real world and a terrifying alternative reality is broken and evil forces are free to flood into Bixby. Sinister, unknown creatures crawl out of the shadows and threaten the town's existence.

This is the perfect set-up for the appearance of a band of superheroes with powers to battle evil. The town is home to five very special teenagers who are the only humans awake during the secret hour. They are called The Midnighters, and with their superhuman powers, their job is to fight for the survival of their town while everyone else is frozen and oblivious to the potential horrors they face.

Scott Westerfield's Blue Noon is an addictive mixture of X-Men and a typical high school novel. You won't believe a word of it, but when a book is this enjoyable to read, the reality of it isn't important.
