There really is no substitute for random and accidental greatness. Sunday evening's Beijing Rock Explosion at the Fringe Club was an amazing night of loud frenzied rock. However, few in the crowd realised the gig nearly went bust. For starters, headliners Re-Tros didn't turn up due to visa problems. But luckily, organiser Justin Sweeting knew there were a couple of awesome indie bands from Manila in town, Pedicab and Sandwich, and got them into the line-up. However, Pedicab and Sandwich were running late. Eventually the two groups arrived at the Fringe an hour before they were scheduled to hit the stage. In the end, it was a blast. But do you know who we have to thank for such a cool night of exciting music? Robert Smith. It turns out all the bands from Beijing and Manila had descended on Hong Kong because they wanted to see The Cure's concert last night at AsiaWorld-Expo. Since they are here on their own dime, Pedicab and Sandwich decided they're going to rock out again tonight at The Wanch. Here's your chance to catch them in action if you missed Sunday's gig.
