High Tech Computer Corp, a Taiwan-listed smart phone manufacturer, plans to double sales of the devices in Hong Kong by the end of this year with the launch of up to six new models, said company executive.
Terry Chung, the Hong Kong and Macau country manager, said that with first-half revenue of NT$50.4 billion (about HK$211.5 million), HTC is the world's largest smart phone vendor using the Microsoft Windows Mobile platform.
A smart phone is a mobile phone with personal computer functions.
The market has split into two camps. There is the Microsoft platform that HTC uses and the Symbian operating system adopted by Nokia and Sony Ericsson.
'Our shipments to Hong Kong doubled in the first half, and this momentum will continue in the second half,' Mr Chung said. 'Sales will double this year.'
Hong Kong outperformed markets such as Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand, thanks in part to the stock market boom as investors used some of their extra cash on new phones.
