Baby dilemma for newly-weds

I want to express  my views about why some young couples choose not to have babies.

Many newly-weds think that having a new addition to their family will bring unnecessary problems and 'ruin' their romantic life.

They know that a baby needs to be looked after very carefully. So they delay or decide not to have a baby.

Also, bringing up a child is expensive.

The child has to be fed, clothed and educated. In addition, there are medical expenses involved.

So some couples wait until they have saved enough money to have a baby, while others don't have one at all.

Young people have different aspirations about life after marriage.

There are many reports about traffic accidents in newspapers.

Children, adults and the elderly have been the victims of this alarming trend.

People often seem to ignore traffic regulations. For example, they walk across the road despite the red light and do not pay much attention to vehicles on the streets.

On the other hand, some people are guilty of reckless driving, and there are those who take the wheel while under the influence of liquor.

These are the main causes of traffic accidents.

To protect our lives, we must strictly observe traffic regulations.

Tell your parents that you love them

Chinese people  find it very difficult to say 'I love you', especially to their parents.

Have you ever thought that you may not have the chance to say those words again?

Our parents are getting older as we grow up. There are more and more wrinkles on their faces.  We should show our love to them while they are alive. It is no use grieving for your parents when they pass away if you haven't helped them in their old age.

So, don't wait anymore! Go and say 'I love you' to your parents now.

Happy orphans

I visited an orphanage recently under a voluntary scheme. When we arrived there, the children were really happy and gave us a warm welcome.

They did not have a family but they enjoyed life. Do you know why?

They were content with their old clothes and ordinary food and thought they were very lucky.

Today's teenagers are never happy, although their parents provide almost everything for them. I learned a lot from the orphans.

Although I spent a lot of time preparing for the visit, it was worthwhile.

Students can bring glory to their school

The main objective of most students is to get good results in public examinations.

I believe education is not only about academic results.

Students gain knowledge at school so they should make some contribution to their institution.

For example, they can take part in extra-curricular activities, and help their school to win competitions.

This will enhance a school's reputation and broaden the students' horizons.

Students should also be well-behaved.

Many of my classmates copy their homework and sleep during lessons. They should show more respect to their teachers.

Students have a responsibility to fulfil their duties.

Happiness is very important to our lives. Shakespeare once said: 'One who is unhappy can never get a beneficial result.'  We have to be both mentally and physically strong in order to succeed.

A happy mind often leads to a strong body.

Unhappiness is a kind of sickness. It can affect one's health and shorten one's life.

People have grey hair because they worry too much. Young men become old quickly because of their negative mentality.

So those who hope to do great things in life must have a healthy mind.

I recently went to my grandfather's home, where I had lunch with some of my relatives.

My cousin - whom I meet only once a year - was also there. But we hardly talked.  It seems there is a long distance between us.

I think we should care more about our family members and try to understand each other better.

A vicious cycle

Many young girls wear makeup even when they go to school.

It is true that beauty products help to improve a person's appearance. But using too much makeup is not good for you because it may cause skin problems.

Also, when you always wear makeup, you won't be confident about your natural looks.

For example, many showbiz stars cannot face the public without wearing makeup and stylish clothes.

It is a vicious cycle and young girls would do well not to rely too much on their looks to impress others.

Imagine your classmates laughing at you or harassing you in school every day.

How would you feel?

I would be depressed and angry.

I would not want to go to school as I hate being bullied.

Students should not stand there while their schoolmates are being harassed.

Bullying will hurt children physically or emotionally. Why don't we get along with our classmates and ensure that school is a harmonious place?

Filmmakers should focus on quality

Hong Kong's movie industry is not living up to its potential.

The city has talented filmmakers and actors but they have failed to impress so far.

The majority of Hong Kong movies have poor plots that fail to engage the viewers.

Our filmmakers produce too many comedies that are of a poor quality.

Hong Kong audiences are very disappointed by these movies.

Making a movie here is not very difficult. Some directors complete shooting within a few weeks and may have a film ready for release in about three months.

It may be a good idea to take more time and shoot a good movie that can be enjoyed by both locals and foreigners.
