Trams are one of the oldest forms of public transport in Hong Kong. And now it is one of the hottest party venues in the city. Hong Kong Tramways offers tram hire packages to the public.

Why tram parties?

Trams are usually hot and crowded and full of strangers, but hiring a tram means you have more freedom and privacy. Party-goers can sit on an open-top tram and view the hustle and bustle of the city, waving at jealous passers-by.

Cost

There are two types of tramcars - open-top antique trams (red or green) and normal passenger trams - available for hire.  Each booking must be for a minimum of two hours.

Antique trams  have a maximum capacity of 25 people and cost HK$950 per hour.

Passenger trams  have a maximum capacity of 35 people  and cost HK$650 per hour.

Hiring Period

Antique trams are available for hire daily from 8am to midnight.

Hiring  hours for passenger trams  vary.  Weekday availability is from 10am to 4pm, and 7pm to midnight. On Saturdays, it's 10am to noon, then2pm to midnight. Availability on Sundays and public holidays is 8am to midnight.

Routing

All trams tours depart from and  return to the Whitty Street Tram Depot in Shek Tong Tsui. Routes vary  depending on the hiring period. For example, a two-hour ride goes  to Causeway Bay and Happy Valley  before returning to  Whitty Street.

Two additional  stops during the tour can be arranged.

How to make a reservation

Reservations can be made by phone at 2118 6338 during office hours or by e-mail to tramhire@hktramways.com. Details of  the tour, including preferred   date, duration and type of tram should be stated.

Bookings should be made at least two weeks but no more than two months prior to the hiring day. Full payment is required a week before the tour.

Other information

Music, food and drinks are allowed onboard.  Arranging   catering  is a popular option. But party  decorations, megaphones or  inflammable objects are prohibited.
