Trial therapy: Indian head massage and lymphatic drainage
What is it?
Indian head massage is said to be able to relieve headaches, migraine, neck and shoulder stiffness, insomnia and even dandruff. Lymphatic drainage is meant to unblock lymph nodes (where fluid typically gathers) in the face, underarms, arms, legs and ankles.
What does it involve?
The therapist lightly fingers through your hair and massages your head. Don't expect a conventional pressure massage - the motion is light and soft. During the lymphatic drainage massage, the therapist uses a soft pushing motion to apply pressure to your lymph nodes.
How did you feel afterwards?
The effect of the head massage was better than I expected. It certainly helped me to relax (the therapist said most people fall asleep) and I felt refreshed afterwards. The lymphatic drainage treatment wasn't as successful. I still had stiff shoulders and muscular pain afterwards. The therapist said it wasn't a deep-muscle massage, but a soft one to drain the lymph nodes. Apparently, it takes four five treatments before you notice any improvement such as a less puffy face or legs.
