It's not often the people behind the scenes get any glory. However, for Chanel's new Paris-Monte Carlo collection, designer Karl Lagerfeld pays tribute to the Parisian 'petite mains' and 'metiers d'art' factories, which have produced some of the most memorable pieces seen on catwalks since the early 20th century. Accessories in the collection include jewelled riding boots, signature quilted handbags embellished with pearls or chains, and tulle-covered evening purses. Standouts include a glass ring set in gold (top right; HK$10,900) and handcrafted by the renowned Desrues factory, which specialises in buttons, accessories and jewellery. Fashionistas will love the kitschy handbag (right; HK$38,000), which has a galaxy of semi-precious stones and glass orbiting a pearl sun.
