A $228 million contract is for advance works for the Ting Kau bridge, which forms part of the future Route 3 highway through the New Territories to China.

The pipeline deal is the fourth contract Leighton has secured for the airport core programme.

To be carried out as a joint venture with Lama Contractors, it is scheduled for completion in October 1995.

The pipeline will be six kilometres, carrying water from Tai Lam Chung Reservoir in the New Territories to the north coast of Lantau Island and connect with a water-main being laid as part of the North Lantau Expressway at Tai Ho.

John Faulkner, Leighton Asia managing director, said the company's original contract for the Route 3-Lantau Fixed Crossing Interchange advance earthworks, its first airport core programme project, would probably be completed three months ahead of schedule.
