Figure it out

I REFER to your report in the Saturday January 8 edition of the South China Morning Post, on the US figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, who was clubbed on the knee by an unknown assailant while taking part in a skating competition in Detroit, Michigan.

She had evidently received two threatening letters - one from Canada's province of Ontario. ''Is Ontario close to here?'' she asked.

The city of Windsor, Ontario, is directly across the Detroit river from Detroit, Michigan, and connected to it by bridge and tunnel - about as far as a good Hong Kong spitter can spit.

Ms Kerrigan is undoubtedly a fine skater, but her knowledge of the immediate world about her is somewhat less than excellent, it seems.
