Moving swiftly underwater, Hong Kong's top finswimmers thrilled the crowd at the University of Science and Technology pool last Saturday.
David Ng, chairman of the Hong Kong Underwater Association's (HKUA) finswimming competition committee, attended the event which aimed at promoting the sport in the city.
'There is a big difference between swimming and finswimming,' said Ng.
'In finswimming, the sportsmen put on a monofin or a pair of bi-fins and move forward using their abdominal muscles. It resembles dolphins diving underwater.'
Earlier, the HKUA announced that the 10th Asian Finswimming Championship will be held at the Tseung Kwan O Swimming Pool from September 13-15. This is the first time that the competition - held every two years - is being hosted by Hong Kong.
It is expected to attract about 200 participants from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, China and Taipei.
Events will include surface, immersion and apnea racing.
