Singer Andy Lau Tak-wah chanted 'Everyone is No 1' at Tiananmen Square on Wednesday night as Beijing marked the one-year countdown to the Olympic Games.

Lau (above), who wrote the lyrics of Everyone is No 1, dedicated the song to those who competed at the Paralympic Games. He said he hoped it would raise awareness and support for disabled athletes.

During rehearsals, the main street to the square, Changan Avenue, was blocked and the singer obligingly posed for photographs since it was his first time performing in Tiananmen Square.

He denied that he'd be dressing up as one of the five mascots at the opening ceremony and joked: 'Don't you want to see my face?'

He said: 'I've already got tickets to the grand opening ceremony, so I'll be there, but I'm not quite sure whether or not I'll be performing that night.'
