With something in it for every taste, The Simpsons Movie sums up American culture in one neat little package. While well-informed adults will laugh at the witty and satirical punchlines, toddlers will enjoy watching Bart skateboard nude across town to get a burger.

Without disclosing too much of the plot, Homer does something terribly selfish after adopting a pig. As a result, the whole town suffers.

After some serious soul-searching, Homer repents, finds his inner hero and saves his family and neighbours.

In the mean time, Bart is touched by Ned Flanders' fatherly love, Lisa finds her true love in an Irish boy, Marge attempts to divorce Homer for good and Maggie finally gets to say something.

As is often the case, the villains are figures of authority: Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has been elected president of the United States in the cartoon, and the head of Environmental Protection Agency, which in real life has become a controversial and politicised agency under the Bush administration.

Even Mr Burns, the ultimate evil capitalist, is no match against the film's idiotic and self-serving government that believes military strength is the solution to everything.
