Work it out

I WOULD like to add a few lines to the comments made by Mr Liu Kin-ming in his letter (South China Morning Post, January 11) on smokers' rights.

There has been much debate in the community whether people with a particular lifestyle should be allowed to continue enjoying their pleasures of life. We see people vigorously campaigning against certain lifestyles taken by other people. However, if we take a closer look at these campaigns, it is not difficult to find out that emotional rhetoric has too often outweighed scientific reasoning.

We at the Freeview Club believe that in the case of smoking, it should not be difficult for smokers and non-smokers to work out among themselves how non-smokers will be least ''affected'', if they really find other people's tobacco smoke a concern. But, smokers' rights should be respected too - accommodation, rather than confrontation.

The Freeview Club, formed by a group of individuals who believe in individual rights and freedom, freedom of personal lifestyle in particular, advocates mutual respect and accommodation of people with different lifestyles. We are not promoting a particular lifestyle as such, rather, we welcome people with different lifestyles to join, as long as they respect other people's choices.
