All the talk at this end lately has been about the alleged break-up of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: Will they? Won't they? Is it true or just a pack of lies? Ad nauseam.

Given that you don't really know what a Hollywood couple is going through until they a) elope, b) announce their split in a carefully worded statement through a publicist, or c) enter rehab, it's impossible to predict whether Brangelina will go the distance or end up on the pile of wrecked celebrity relationships.

As of this week, in a meaty interview with a French publication, Jolie said all was well in Brangie-land, telling the reporter that the bisexuality she had long been known for had ended once she shacked up with Pitt. But actress Jenny Shimizu maintains otherwise, saying in a new documentary that she's had an ongoing amorous relationship with Jolie for a decade - and that Pitt and their growing brood of kids notwithstanding, the twosome are still very close, with Shimizu often responding to booty calls.

Oh, dear.

The rumours of Brangelina's impending bust-up started swirling after numerous seemingly unconnected and otherwise rather innocuous events. They had a fight in a food court. Who hasn't had a fight in a food court - especially with four children under the age of six in tow? He's been zipping around town solo on his motorbike. She's been travelling the world making movies and maintaining her reputation as a humanitarian, but he doesn't always want to tag along. They've had their problems. But, says their publicist, they're still together.

This week, anyway.

Whatever becomes of Brangelina, their alliance has thrown into focus just how tenuous celebrity unions are, going from a rumour to a splashy wedding to a break-up in no time. Assuming that anyone who wants to appear on stage and screen naturally has a rather large ego, it goes without saying that no relationship can withstand two such egos fighting for their share of the spotlight.
