Where is it? This six-year-old boutique hotel is located in New York's bustling SoHo neighbourhood - thankfully a block away from the 'madness'.
Who goes there? It is the hotel of choice for Lindsay Lohan. Kirsten Dunst is a regular while Jude Law and Jeremy Piven have been spotted here as well.
Modern or traditional? The hotel reflects the rhythms of metropolitan New York and gives them a glamorous translation in its furnishings and amenities.
What about the guest quarters? Marble-tiled baths, Sferra bed linen, down-filled duvets, Frette robes and Fresh bath products are among the treats. Dean & DeLuca products are available in the mini-bars, which also sell a US$165 Kiki De Montparnasse intimacy kit. The Thompson Loft (above left), a two-level, two-bedroom suite, features a four-poster king-sized bed, marble fireplace, terrace and hidden sun deck.
What's the bar scene like? Three bars in a 100-room hotel puts the emphasis on socialising. Hang out at A60, a members-only rooftop lounge also open to hotel clients and offering outstanding city views. Thom Bar, on the second floor (above right), oozes sexiness in a dimly lit area featuring ebony panelled walls, classic Serge Mouille lighting, a Baroque porcelain chandelier and a stunning Gonzalo Papantonakis painting.
What's on the menu? Cutting-edge Thai food is available at Kittichai. Try the chocolate baby back ribs with Thai spices, chicken lollipops with smoked chilli sauce and crispy whole fish with sweet chilli tamarind sauce.
What's the bottom line? Rooms start at US$539 a night. Deals are often available on Sunday nights by calling or booking via the Web.
