Thief ransacks ex-official's home

A burglar stole HK$838,800 worth of jewellery, watches and cash from the Mid-Levels home of former government official Adolf Hsu Hsung. The thief also stole goods worth HK$505,000 from a neighbour in Lyttelton Road. The burglar was discovered by Mr Hsu's maid in the apartment on Sunday night. She locked herself in a room and called the police but the man fled before officers arrived, a spokeswoman said. Mr Hsu, 69, retired as director of the now-defunct Regional Services Department in 1998.
