Global Sources acquires Blue Bamboo China Ventures Global Sources, a leading mainland business-to-business website, acquired Beijing-based online media company Blue Bamboo China Ventures for an undisclosed sum. Blue Bamboo chief executive Tom Melcher will join Global Sources and lead a new division focused on Global Source's mainland online media efforts. Blue Bamboo runs websites that focus on home renovation (chinadeco.com.cn), overseas study (6xue.info), weddings (ixinniang.com, 51hunshazhao.com) and parenting (qinziguanxi.com). The acquisition is expected to be finalised in the third quarter. Sherman So Bank of Shanghai picks Teradata for data warehouse system Bank of Shanghai has selected business software firm Teradata, a division of United States-based NCR, to build its enterprise data warehouse system. The financial terms of the deal were not given. The Teradata system will integrate data from the bank's core banking system, personal banking, international business and credit card information infrastructure to help the bank make better and faster decisions, more effectively manage risks, boost customer relationship management, and deploy anti-money-laundering capabilities. Bien Perez Vimicro profit declines to US$205,000 in second quarter Mainland integrated circuit design company Vimicro said its second-quarter net profit retreated to US$205,000, from US$1.8 million recorded in the same period last year. The company posted a US$3.8 million loss for the first quarter. Second-quarter sales fell to US$26.5 million from US$32.9 million a year earlier, recovering from US$16.9 million in the previous quarter. Bien Perez Verizon to provide security system for Hutchison 3G Australia The Australian 3G subsidiary of Hutchison Telecom has awarded a three-year contract for an undisclosed amount to Verizon Business, a unit of United States-based service provider Verizon Communications, to provide a managed security system for its wireless network. The deal will provide Hutchison 3G Australia with an onsite security specialist and 24-hour monitoring from the Verizon Business Asia-Pacific security operations centre in Canberra, Australia, and full integration into the US firm's global managed network operations centre. Verizon Business will also provide round-the-clock monitoring and management for the Australian company's firewall devices and recently deployed intrusion detection system. Bien Perez
