Ex-fugitive jailed for deception
A garment company owner who had been on the run for 13 years was yesterday jailed for six years for deception and cheating banks out of more than HK$40 million. Chan Hon-ming, 58, had fled to the US in 1993 and was arrested in New York in May last year. He was extradited to Hong Kong in February.
Teens charged with boy's murder
Three teenagers will appear in Kwun Tong Court today charged with the murder of a 15-year-old boy who was beaten to death in Ngau Tau Kok last Friday. They were among seven teenagers, aged 15 and 18, arrested in connection with the attack.
Truck hijacker's appeal backfires
A man who appealed against his 13-year sentence for attempted hijacking had three months added to his time yesterday. Chan Wan-cheung, 36, was found guilty of attempting to hijack a truck in 2004. He contended that he did not know his co-accused would take a gun to the robbery. However, the appeal judges did not believe him.
