Modern offices tend to have a window on one or more sides. Regardless of how attractive the view is, it is not recommended to sit facing a window, as this may result in distraction and a decreasing appreciation of the view. If you sit with your back to the entrance, you will be vulnerable to rumours and backstabbing from your associates. It is preferable to sit with your side to the view and face the door, so you are able to glance out of the window from time to time. If you have no choice but to sit facing a window, try to minimise the glare by keeping the blinds partly drawn. You can also arrange furniture or plants to partly obscure the view.
If there are windows on multiple walls, ensure the window that lies behind you when you are working becomes a 'virtual' wall by keeping the curtains closed. Should there be pillars within your office, ensure you do not sit with your back to the edge of one. Nor should a pillar interfere with your movement when leaving your desk. For instance, if a pillar is adjacent to your desk and means you have to squeeze out whenever you leave, you may encounter obstacles in your work that will result in decreased productivity. Relocate your desk or reduce its dimensions so you have ample space to move around.
