Why you can trust SCMP

What is it? L'Avion is the first French all business-class airline. It flies once a day, except Saturdays, from Paris Orly Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport.

How much does it cost? Until the end of September, L'Avion is offering a summer special round-trip fare of US$1,594. From next month L'Avion will raise fares to US$1,894.

What are the interiors like? The Boeing 757-200 used on the flights seats only 90 passengers, each of whom is assured a window or aisle seat because there are no middle seats. Each seat reclines 140 degrees and is separated from the seats front and behind by more than a metre.

What about the service? The passenger-to-flight attendant ratio doesn't begin to compare with that in the business cabin of a three-class aircraft but L'Avion's smartly dressed, friendly flight attendants are quick to respond to requests.

What's the food like? Seasonal menus aim to blend colour, flavour and freshness. Grilled lamb chops, salmon, Italian risotto and breast of chicken are some of the offerings but the meals are still lacklustre. The highlight is the cheese plate, and French wines, champagne, aperitifs and digestifs are available.

Anything else we should know? Dogs and cats weighing less than 4kg (kennel included) are allowed in the cabin for Euro125 (HK$1,350) for a round trip. The airline has reported such a response that it plans to add a second aircraft, doubling the number of flights.
