Moore mounts plan to give games team a leg-up
Hong Kong's Equestrian Team for the 2008 Olympic Games will be the beneficiary of HK$200,000 in prize money if John Moore wins the celebrity race against six fellow trainers at Sha Tin on Sunday. But Moore plans to augment the Jockey Club's donation through personal sponsorship over the next few days. 'I want to send a circular to all my owners and ask them to support the race with some sponsorship,' Moore said yesterday at a special function in the Jockey Club box at Sha Tin. 'I believe many owners would enjoy the opportunity to get involved for a good cause and, perhaps for next year, it is something all the trainers could do. It would be even better for the charities, and would help raise the profile of the event.' After the barrier draw, it was down to business for the seven born-again jockeys as they were briefed by chief stipendiary steward Jamie Stier. The race will be one of the attractions of Sunday's opening meeting. Other trainers to ride are Derek Cruz, Denis Yip Chor-hong, Francis Liu Kin-wai, Michael Chang Chun-wai, Ricky Yiu Poon-fai and Me Tsui Yu-sak.
