Taste of life in space

Rebecca Tsui

It was a dream come true for six Hong Kong students when they experienced the life of an astronaut during a training camp in the United States last month.

Each accompanied by one of their parents, Branden Yau, eight, Darren Chan, nine, Marcus Li, nine, Anson Cheung, 10, Kylie Wong, 10, and Christopher Chan, 11, attended the US Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

The programme, organised by MassMutual Asia, enabled participants to experience virtual space flight and gain a better understanding of space exploration and technology.

Hong Kong's 'junior astronauts' showed great determination and character to win The Best Team Award.

The parents said the space camp had broadened their children's horizons and offered a rare opportunity to overcome challenges together.

'The main aim is to develop children's perseverance, inquisitiveness and confidence through innovative and unique training experiences,' said Jeanne Sau, senior vice-president of MassMutual Asia.
